A 3-Day
Cultural Adventure

April 27 - 30, 2024

“I just want to say again how wonderful our experience was. It really lifted my spirits at a time when I needed it. It was creatively conceived, beautifully organized, fun, funny, insightful, and off-the-beaten-path.”

You wouldn’t go to New York
and only see Times Square . . .

. . . so why would you go to Las Vegas
and only see the Strip?

Meet Your Downtown Guide: Richard Hooker

Richard is a pre-eminent expert on Las Vegas culture. He was formerly the Urban Arts Coordinator for the City of Las Vegas and worked directly on landmark projects including the Neon Museum, the 18b Arts District, the Cultural Corridor, the Las Vegas Scenic Byway, and the Las Vegas Book Festival.

    • Welcome dinner and mixer at the Italian American Social Club - founded in 1972 so Frank Sinatra had a place to entertain his friends

    • Guided Tour of the Neon Boneyard at night – a unique opportunity to learn the history of Las Vegas gaming and entertainment through its preserved neon signs

    • Cocktails at the Ghost Bar high atop the city, where the views are incredible.

    • The Kiel Ranch is the site of the very first horse ranch in Las Vegas circa 1855. Not much remains except some amazing stories, but there is a ‘doll house’, which is an example of a small shack where women could stay for 24 hours so that they could establish Nevada residency and take advantage of liberal divorce laws!

    • We’ll get to see the interiors of some of the most fascinating homes in the city. Four residents will be showcasing their residences and on hand to share their stories.

    • The Liberace Mansion is closed to the public, but the owner will graciously open his home to us to showcase its meticulous restoration. My favorite story by our guide is that Liberace fell in love with a spiral staircase in Europe, so he bought it, and THEN added a second story to his mansion to accommodate it!

    • The Boring Tunnel is proof that Las Vegas is at the forefront of change. It’s essentially a subway, but with Teslas instead of subway trains! We’ll take individual Teslas underground from the Strip to the Convention Center and back. Plans are already underway for 65 miles of tunnel, connecting the Las Vegas metro area.

    • Our downtown guide Richard Hooker always finds new treasures to explore downtown, and we’ll examine a variety of them on this walking around tour.

    • What’s life like for a genuine Las Vegas showgirl? We’ll meet one of the best, see where she creates her magic and learn backstage stories and how she performs with a 60lb headdress!

    • The Showgirl Museum is a private home filled to the brim with over 250 costumes from Strip productions, which is just a fraction of the 44,000 (!) costumes Grant Phillipi has accumulated over his 40 year career as a show boy. Originally a farm boy from Iowa, Grant has more raunchy stories than Joan Rivers, and he is just as entertaining.

    • The Sphere is touted as a venue like no other by everyone who has experienced it. Not only will we experience it, but we’ll learn about the incredible infrastructure.

    • Las Vegas is increasingly regarded as a hotbed for phenomenal cuisine, and not just on the Strip. We’ll be checking out the latest trends and food finds.

    • Las Vegas is probably home to more museums than any other city per capita, and you can add The Pinball Museum to the list. Bring a roll of quarters and you can have revisit your childhood here playing pinball machines that range from the very oldest to some of the most current.

    • The 15,000 square foot underground home is an amazing highlight of the tour. Walk through the nondescript house above ground, go in the closet, and take the elevator down 100 feet. Complete with casita and swimming pool. Although not updated since its construction in the 70s, it has been meticulously maintained with its original furnishings, including a pink kitchen!

If you’re sensing a pattern here, there is one; I try to introduce you to some of the most colorful Las Vegas residents you’ll ever want to meet!

  • Three night stay in deluxe room at The Horseshoe, located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip.

  • $699 per person (based on hotel double occupancy)

Includes all transportation, lodging and described activities. Does not include transportation to and from Las Vegas.
